COLLEGE STATION, Texas — As expected, Shea Patterson took the first snap of his Ole Miss career on Saturday.
The true freshman and former 5-star prospect, who earned the start against No. 8 Texas A&M at Kyle Field, ran out of shotgun for a 16-yard gain on first and 10. The crowd noise as Patterson and his teammates lined up was borderline deafening. The drive ended in a Gary Wunderlich punt.
The move burns Patterson’s redshirt, but with the possibility that he’s not going to stick around for his senior season with the Rebels, it makes plenty of sense.
Patterson was the No. 1 pro-style passer in the Class of 2016, according to the 247Sports Composite.
