Ole Miss’ starting center this week against Georgia Southern has never snapped a football during a game.
Nonetheless, sophomore Javon Patterson has been thrust into the starting center role given the injuries to Robert Conyers (normal starter) and Sean Rawlings.
“He’s the next best guy to snap, I think, with Sean and Robert being down and not burning a redshirt,” Freeze said, according to the Oxford Citizen’s John Davis. “He and (Jacob) Feeley will hopefully handle the center duties,” Freeze said. “He has never snapped a ball in a game. That can always be interesting. Hopefully we can stay healthy throughout the game for sure.”
Patterson started six games at guard (4 at left guard, 2 at right guard) last season for the Rebels.
Ole Miss enters Saturday’s game with a three-game losing streak, and will look to move back get back to its winning ways against Georgia Southern.
The game will kickoff at 12 p.m. ET and be broacasted on ESPNU.
