A new cheer is coming to Ole Miss.
Deep in a story from John Davis of the Oxford Citizen, it’s revealed that students and fans are being instructed to embrace a new chant this season. This was mentioned when Davis reported about a recent pep rally Thursday night at the newly-remodeled Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. A “hype man” named Lee Williams led the crowd and offered instructions.
Here’s more from Davis’ piece:
When a team’s quarterback gets sacked, Williams said he wants all the students, and fans, to yell “ooh Ole Miss” as loud as possible. The new chant includes hand clapping and then a final loud yell of Rebels. Williams made sure to go over the new chant three times, with the band helping out as he went along.
Will this new cheer catch on? It can be hard to create new traditions, but moves like this can be good. Keep your ears out for the cheer throughout the year.
Rebels fans, who saw their team amass 29 sacks in 2015 (tied for 50th in country) should want the chance to yell, “ooh Ole Miss” a bunch this season as their team tries to claim an SEC West title.
