It’s likely that Thursday could be interim coach Matt Luke’s final game leading Ole Miss. However, who will become the Rebels’ new coach after their Thanksgiving Egg Bowl matchup with Mississippi State?
According to Football Scoop’s Scott Roussel, Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre is reportedly interested, as is UTSA’s Frank Wilson.
MacIntyre is currently in his fifth season coaching the Buffaloes. They are 5-6 this year, after going 10-4 in 2016. He has a 25-37 career record at Colorado. Prior to that, he went 16-21 over three seasons at San Jose State.
Wilson was Ole Miss’ running backs coach from 2005-07. He is in his second season at UTSA — his only head-coaching experience — where he has gone 12-11. UTSA is 6-4 this year.
Football Scoop also reported that Ole Miss “has been having conversations with representatives of current Power 5 head coaches, in addition to plenty of Group of 5 head coaches.” There have been rumors circulating about the status of Oregon coach Willie Taggart, and while Football Scoop said he may not definitely be a candidate, those “are the waters Ole Miss is fishing in.”
The Rebels’ search will likely pick up after their season is over. They finish with the Egg Bowl on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
