Mississippi receiver Van Jefferson was expected to be a standout football player.
His father is Miami Dolphins receivers coach Shawn Jefferson. He was also a four-star recruit coming out of high school.
But after redshirting his freshman year, Jefferson is beginning to live up to those expectations, according to Antonio Morales’ story in The Clarion-Ledger
Jefferson, a redshirt freshman, scored a touchdown in his college debut against FSU and had six catches for 91 yards last week against Alabama. Through three games, Jefferson is tied for second on the team in receptions with 12 and is third in receiving yards with 145.
“Kids get so built up in the recruiting process by all of us, media and coaches. But redshirting is really a good thing for a lot of kids,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze was quoted as saying in the article. “He’ll be the first to tell you he’s glad he did. He’s bigger, he’s stronger, and he’s been really confident ever since spring practice when he knew, ‘Man, I’m going to be in the mix for playing time.’”
