Many believed Laremy Tunsil threw Ole Miss under the bus when he admitted to taking impermissible benefits last month at the NFL Draft. But former coach Rick Neuheisel believes no consequences will come from this latest incident.
While making an appearance on Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly, Neuheisel said he had spoken with Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze. Although he didn’t go into details, Neuheisel seems confident that Ole Miss will get off without any serious punishment.
“In talking with Hugh, and I’m not at liberty to tell you everything he told me, I feel very comfortable that (the current NCAA investigation) will go away and go away quietly, because I don’t feel like Ole Miss has anything really at risk here with respect to having done anything wrong,” Neuheisel told Mattingly.
It appeared Ole Miss may have gotten into more hot water with the NCAA after an Instagram hack of Tunsil’s account revealed a text message exchange between Tunsil and the Rebels’ associate athletic director of football operations, John Miller, in which Tunsil asked Miller to provide him money for his rent and his mother’s utility bill.
There’s no resolution in sight in this latest situation, but Neuheisel’s remarks should alleviate Rebels’ fans distress.
