Stewart Mandel: Ole Miss can recover, but past success under Hugh Freeze ‘will be an aberration’
One college football expert says Ole Miss can recover from its current trouble, but recent gains experienced during the Hugh Freeze era won’t be easy to live again.
Speaking to Bo Mattingly of Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly on Tuesday, Stewart Mandel of The All-American gave his take on what Ole Miss can accomplish in future years. Check out his thoughts below, and if you’re an Ole Miss fan, you might want to look away.
Mandel: I do think Ole Miss can bounce back pretty quickly, but I think those two years of glory under Freeze will be an aberration.

That’s not an unreasonable prediction. Yes, Ole Miss can recover from whatever the NCAA throws its way. Yes, there can be a path forward. But can the Rebels enjoy nine- and 10-win seasons again soon? That remains to be seen, and it will largely depend on what kind of coach is selected to lead Ole Miss in the future.
It will be fascinating to track the Rebels’ progress in the coming years.
