If staving off elimination wasn’t enough, Tulane’s baseball team was provided some extra motivation by a fan’s offensive message before its 6-5 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday.
A ball that was sent into the bleachers during batting practice was thrown back onto the field with a horrific message scribbled on the side of it: “I took my Chevy to the levee but the levee was gone … Katrina 06,” the ball read.

The note was a spin on lyrics from Don McLean’s song, “American Pie,” and it also mistook the year Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans, which was actually in 2005.
Ultimately, Tulane got the last laugh. The Green Wave kept their season alive courtesy of a two-run home run by Jake Rogers in the top of the ninth inning that eliminated Ole Miss in front of a home crowd in Oxford, Miss.
