On this day five years ago Missouri hosted College GameDay for the first time ever on campus, upsetting No. 1 Oklahoma 36-27 behind a big game from Blaine Gabbert. GameDay hasn’t been back to Columbia since, but it could be a big weekend in the Show-Me State with the Royals having a chance to clinch a World Series berth and Mizzou alleviating some of the bowl eligibility pressure on its back with a win over Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Here are four things to know:
- Derek Mason does his homework. Vanderbilt’s coach referenced all of Mizzou’s defensive nicknames, calling the linebacking core the “Bash Brothers”, the secondary “No-Fly Zone” and the defensive line “Zou Crew” (meaning D-line Zou). He meant well. Read all of what Mason had to say courtesy of the Columbia Daily Tribune’s Blake Toppmeyer.
- Nearly every program in the SEC East has had some quarterback issues in 2015 and Vandy is no exception. Derek Mason is exploring every option at quarterback this week, meaning the Tigers could see someone other than sophomore Johnny McCrary wrote the Columbia Daily Tribune’s David Morrison.
- Mizzou has fielded one of its best defenses in program history, ranking sixth in scoring defense, eighth in total defense and fifth in tackles for loss. David Morrison dove into the Mizzou defense using advanced statistics.
- Just two days after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars former Mizzou great Ziggy Hood was signed by the Chicago Bears. Hood was a first round pick in 2009 by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
