Unlike many of his fellow coaches, Barry Odom and his players produced some memorable highlights at SEC Media Days.
First there was Odom once again trying to move the program past the protests that occurred at the school in the fall of 2015. And he and Bret Bielema, along with Missouri linebacker Eric Beisel, are also trying to stoke the flames of the Arkansas-Missouri rivalry.
And of course there was a question or two about Missouri moving to the SEC West.
As for Missouri’s 2017 product, it should be a lot of fun to watch as the Tigers offense will be led by junior quarterback Drew Lock.
To Odom’s credit, he’s already lined up a potential successor to Lock in 2018 quarterback James Foster. He is the No. 14 dual-threat quarterback in the class, per the 247Sports composite rankings, who turned down offers from Alabama and Georgia. However, Missouri has the lowest-rated SEC recruiting class in the 2018 recruiting cycle
Missouri went 4-8 in Odom’s first season. It wasn’t always pretty, but the Tigers did beat Arkansas and nearly knocked off Georgia early in the season. Offensive coordinator Josh Heupel helped fuel the offense, but its up-tempo pace hurt the defense.
In his first full recruiting cycle with little elite talent available in Missouri, Odom brought in the No. 42 recruiting class in the country. The Tigers got a late boost with the addition of Akial Byers, a former 4-star Alabama defensive tackle commit who is expected to join the Tigers this summer. Still, the class was 13th among the 14 SEC teams, with Byers the lone blue-chip recruit.
Odom had a guaranteed salary of $2.35 million during his first season at Missouri. In the previous edition of SEC Country’s approval rating poll, Odom came in at 71.2 percent, which was No. 9 at among SEC coaches.
So, how do Missouri fans feel about Odom now? Was Odom’s first season and first full recruiting class enough to convince Missouri fans that Odom was the right person to replace Gary Pinkel? Now is your chance to vote.
Vote on Missouri coach Barry Odom’s approval rating
The SEC Country approval rating poll is designed to give an indication of fan happiness over a period of time.
Our formula is based on the percentage of respondents who select each answer. We multiply that percentage by the following factors: 1 (strongly approve), 0.67 (approve), 0.33 (disapprove) and 0.0 (strongly disapprove). In other words, if 50 percent of respondents select “strongly approve” and 50 percent select “approve,” the formula would be (50 x 1) + (50 x 0.67) = 83.5% approval rating.
