Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com refuted the report.
Memphis source: No job offer made to any candidate (including Barry Odom). List is being put together for review. Will be an actual search

Odom was the defensive coordinator at Memphis from 2012-14 for Justin Fuente, who was officially announced Sunday as the new coach at Virginia Tech. He had been an assistant for Pinkel prior to that, and returned in 2015 as defensive coordinator.
The Tigers finished the season 5-7, but Odom’s defense is ranked seventh in the country in scoring defense and ninth in total defense.
