Missouri guard Connor McGovern is joining the defending Super Bowl champs. McGovern was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Projected as a third-round pick by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, McGovern slipped into the third day of the draft and could come as a value to the Broncos. McGovern is one of the strongest players in the draft and posted 33 bench press repetitions during the NFL Combine.
The three-year starter is also a versatile prospect, having played guard and tackle at Mizzou. The Broncos have a lot of holes along the offensive line and will need to do a better job of protecting whoever replaces Peyton Manning as the team’s starting quarterback. McGovern must improve in pass protection, but could earn a starting job as a rookie.
