Bob Vanatta, who was Missouri’s basketball coach from 1962 to 1967, died Saturday in Jupiter, Fla. He was 98.
Vanatta went 42-80 in five seasons leading the Tigers. He also coached at Memphis State, Bradley, Army, Missouri State and Delta State. Beyond coaching, he worked as an athletic director at Oral Roberts and Louisiana Tech.

He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and his two championship MSU teams were inducted in 2015. He was in the inaugural class of the Missouri State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1975 and was inducted into the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
Vanatta’s best seasons with Missouri came in the 1963-64 and 1964-65 campaigns, when the Tigers posted 13-11 marks both times.
