Former Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert started eight games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2015, and he will start Week 1 vs. the Los Angeles Rams after the team made the announcement on Saturday.
Gabbert, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, took over for Colin Kaepernick at the midpoint of the 2015 season, leading the 49ers to three victories over the final eight contests and passing for 2,031 yards, 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He completed 12-of-22 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown during the preseason.
Kaepernick, who has made recent headlines for his refusal to stand for the national anthem, made the team’s 53-man roster.
Gabbert was traded to San Francisco in 2014 after three largely ineffective seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
