For an assistant coach, Michael Porter Sr. is sure getting a lot of ink lately.
He’s also going to get paid.
The newest Missouri basketball employee, and father of the nation’s top recruit Michael Porter Jr., signed a three-year contract to join coach Cuonzo Martin’s staff. The deal is worth a guaranteed $1.125 million, according to Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Porter’s base pay each year is $300,000. He also will rceive $75,000 in supplemental pay.
Additional perks in the contract include a country club membership and courtesy car, four season tickets to men’s and women’s basketball games and access to all other Mizzou home sporting events.
Mizzou also agreed to pay Porter’s buyout at Washington. Porter was an assistant to fired Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar.
Porter’s new boss, Martin, has a seven-year deal worth a guaranteed $21 million.
Porter was an assistant coach for the Mizzou women’s basketball team from 2010-16. His daughers, Bri and Cierrs, play for the team.
Porter Jr. verbally committed Friday to join Mizzou as part of the 2017 recruiting class. Another Porter, younger son Jontay, also is an elite basketball prospect and could be committing to the Tigers.
