Lane Kiffin has a new athletic director at Florida Atlantic, and it’s someone who also has SEC ties.
Missouri deputy athletic director Brian White was named athletic director at FAU on Saturday, the Owls’ sixth AD in school history.
The hire comes after FAU president John Kelly conducted a wide search for the school’s next AD. Previous AD Pat Chun left for the Washington State job in January.
“I challenged our coaches and our entire athletics department to create top 25 programs capable of competing at the highest level,” Kelly said in a statement. “Everyone involved has risen to the challenge and, in bringing Brian White to FAU, we will continue on our exciting journey under his skilled leadership.”
White brings youth to FAU, but he also has a wealth of experience from his time at Mizzou. He captained external matters at Mizzou, including marketing, ticket sales and strategic communication.
“The moment this opportunity arose I knew immediately I wanted to join the team at Florida Atlantic University,” White said in a statement. “From the vision and ambition of the president and the board of trustees to the huge potential of all the school’s athletic programs, these are exciting times to be at FAU.”
Florida Atlantic’s football program is coming off a conference championship under Kiffin, but the team hasn’t enjoyed sustained success since the mid 2000s. This season, the Owls face Oklahoma, Air Force and Central Florida in nonconference play.
