KANSAS CITY —The dormant Missouri-Kansas basketball rivalry gets a brief restart on Sunday in Kansas City.
The Tigers face the Jayhawks in an exhibition game at the Sprint Center in Kansas City in a fundraising game. The Showdown for Relief will donate all proceeds to hurricane relief.
Even considering the noble goal of this game, one of the nation’s most intense rivalries will get the headlines. Missouri and Kansas — longtime rivals in the Border War-turned-Border Showdown series — haven’t played in basketball since the Tigers left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012. While this game won’t count for the series, the fact that it will be played in a sold-out Sprint Center shows that the rivalry isn’t dead.
