Missouri suspended quarterback Maty Mauk and offensive lineman Malik Cuellar for Saturday’s game against South Carolina for a violation of team policies, the school announced on Tuesday evening. The status of both players will be re-evaluated after Saturday’s game, according to the press release.
The school did not make Mauk available to the media on Monday due to what reporters called family reasons. His father Mike, who is being treated for colorectal cancer, underwent successful surgery that same day, reported Rance Burger of the Springfield News-Leader.
Mauk has thrown for 654 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions as the starter for the 3-1 Tigers. Freshman quarterback Drew Lock has served as the backup this season and will likely replace Mauk for Saturday’s game. Lock, a former 4-star recruit, has completed 15 of 25 passes for 225 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
