It has not been a good year for the Missouri Tigers basketball team, and it didn’t get any better this weekend.
The school announced two players, forwards Jakeenan Gant and Russell Woods, have been suspended from the team for a game Saturday against Alabama after both were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Student-athletes Jakeenan Gant and Russell Woods were notified earlier today they have been suspended for tomorrow’s game at Alabama, per athletic department policy,” the school said in a statement released Friday. “Their status with the program will be reevaluated next week.”
Rob Dauster of NBC Sports reported Saturday that the two players, who are roommates, were cited after police entered their apartment Jan. 15 to investigate a third roommate’s involvement in a robbery that occurred in December.
Missouri is 8-14 this season, including 1-8 in SEC play. Both players are averaging 15 minutes per game for the Tigers, mostly off the bench. Gant is averaging 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds, while Woods averages 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds.
