Cox defeated Cuba’s Salas Perez. Cox was leading late in the bronze medal match when his opponent refused to re-enter the ring with six seconds left. Perez was disqualified, making Cox the winner. Earlier in the day, Cox lost in the semifinal to Selim Yasar.
Cox is the seventh Missouri athlete to win a medal at the Olympics. Cox will be a senior at Missouri this year.
