Martin was offered the same position at Missouri earlier Wednesday afternoon, though it is not yet confirmed that the Mizzou job is officially the one he is leaving for. Martin has also been tied to the opening at the University of Illinois, and other prominent positions are available at LSU and NC State.
Martin has been at Cal for the last three seasons, which were preceded by time with Tennessee and Missouri State. He has deep ties to the Midwest, having been born and raised in East St. Louis, Ill.
Update: Cal has confirmed that Martin is indeed stepping down as head coach.
