Sterk is one of the rising stars in the athletic director world. In his seventh year at San Diego State, Sterk was named Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2016. The Aztecs’ combined basketball and football winning percentage trails only Ohio State and Louisville among FBS teams this decade. Before San Diego State, Sterk was an athletic director at Portland State and Washington State.
Missouri lost former athletic director Mack Rhoades, who had only been with the school a year, to Baylor in July. The Tigers named Wren Baker interim athletic director, but he left to take the open athletic director job at North Texas.
Though Mizzou now has an athletic director, the school is still without a university president and chancellor. Longtime Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel left the program because of health issues. Barry Odom will try to maintain the same levels of success in his first stint as a collegiate head coach. The Missouri basketball program is also on probation until Aug. 2017.
