Missouri star freshman Michael Porter Jr. to play Thursday in SEC Tournament

It appears Thursday will be the day Missouri fans have been waiting for since almost the beginning of the season.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum reported shortly before his 3 p.m. hour that Michael Porter Jr. will play Thursday in the SEC Tournament.

Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin met with the media Wednesday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, the site of the tournament. He said Porter will play, but not start.

Porter played just two minutes against Iowa State in the first game of the season before going down with a back injury. He had surgery, and there wasn’t much hope for his return this season.

He was ranked as the top freshman player in the country coming into the season and is widely regarded as a potential lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Porter was cleared for basketball activities in February. Mizzou is scheduled to play the winner of the game Wednesday night between Georgia and Vanderbilt, which tips off at 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
