What a great move by Barry Odom.
On Monday, the Missouri coach gave a verbal hat tip to senior linebacker Michael Scherer when addressing reporters. Scherer sustained a season-ending injury when he tore both the ACL and MCL in his right knee during the Tigers’ loss to Middle Tennessee on Oct. 22.
“He’s a special guy to me,” Odom told reporters. “He’s a special guy to our program. And it means the world to me all the things he has done for this place.”
Odom went on to say he wants his two sons to act like Scherer when they reach the player’s age. Just a classy move all around.

Scherer’s presence will be missed in Missouri’s remaining games against South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Arkansas. He had 53 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss this season.
Later, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Dave Matter shared information that former Missouri wide receiver Jeremy Maclin reached out to Scherer to offer perspective.
