EA Sports College Football 27 drops in less than three weeks. With the game just around the corner, ratings for teams and individual players will be announced. On Wednesday morning, EA Sports dropped its top-10 rankings for offensive positions, including quarterbacks, wide receivers, and other position groups on that side of the ball.
The Oklahoma Sooners are projected to be one of the top teams in the SEC this season, upgrading their offense through the transfer portal and retaining a ton of defensive talent with NFL potential. Despite the Oklahoma offense having a better outlook this year than in 2025, the Sooners have only one player featured in any of the positional top-10 rankings.
Oklahoma’s John Mateer sneaks into the top 10 QBs

Sliding in at the No. 10 in the quarterback rankings is Oklahoma passer John Mateer, starting the year as an 89 overall. Mateer transferred to Oklahoma from Washington State last year, and his SEC career couldn’t have started better. Oklahoma started the year 4-0 with wins over Michigan and Auburn, both of which had top-30 defenses. Mateer was scorching these defenses and was the Heisman Trophy favorite after Week 4 of the season.
The Heisman campaign was short-lived, though, as Mateer would suffer a thumb injury on his throwing hand during the Week 4 win against Auburn. After that, the production dropped heavily.
Mateer finished the 2025 season with 2,885 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He added 431 rushing yards and 8 scores on the ground.
I’m an Oklahoma guy, but seeing Mateer make this list (and as the fourth-highest-ranked SEC QB) surprised me. Mateer has the talent and raw ability to be the best QB in the conference, but his final few games left something to be desired. The EA staff clearly projects a better year for Mateer in 2026 and is betting on the upside he brings, which isn’t wrong to do.
I will say, though, that Mateer should be ranked above LSU’s Sam Leavitt. At Arizona State last year, he was injured most of the season and didn’t even perform that well before the injury. Leavitt enters the SEC with a ton of hype and under a great offensive system with Lane Kiffin at the helm. Even so, Mateer at least had a month of the season where he was the front-page headline for the entire sport. Leavitt can’t say the same, and he missed all of spring with a foot injury.
Isaiah Sategna snubbed from the top 10 receivers
This dude is one of the fastest receivers not just in the SEC, but in all of college football. Isaiah Sategna was a breakout star in 2025, where he posted 67 catches for 965 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Sategna is electric with the ball in his hands, and once he has open space, it’s hard to catch him. All of Sategna’s production was against a grueling SEC schedule, facing great defenses throughout the year and still being the Sooners’ most consistent pass catcher.
Despite the phenomenal season that Sategna had, he doesn’t crack the top 10 receivers for CFB 27. The Sooners’ WR1 put up the numbers that indicate he’s one of the best in the country.
Numbers don’t mean everything, but Sategna’s season is comparable to guys in the top 10 like Houston’s Amare Thomas, who ranks No. 9. Thomas posted close to identical numbers (67 receptions, 966 yards, 12 TDs). Productivity against a Big 12 schedule isn’t as difficult as what Sategna and the Sooners went through, though.
The other glaring mistake in this top 10 WR list is that Alabama’s Ryan Coleman-Williams is on it at all. Williams is certainly a talented receiver, but he went through a severe sophomore slump. After regressing from 865 yards to 689 in 2025, he should have to earn his way back into the top 10. Starting the year sixth overall is simply due to a strong freshman season and being the cover athlete for CFB 26.
If Sategna has another year like 2025, or even takes another leap, he’s undoubtedly a top-10 receiver in the country.
