Dallas Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones traded for former Georgia wide receiver George Pickens in 2025. Pickens, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, is expected to be a free agent this offseason. However, the Cowboys do have the option to re-sign Pickens before March, keeping him from hitting the market.
In 17 games last season, Pickens caught 93 passes (No. 8 in the league) for 1,429 yards (No. 3 in the league) and 9 touchdowns (No. 8t in the league) for the Cowboys.
Pickens was also voted Offensive MVP of the NFL Pro Bowl.
Pickens caught 90 passes for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns in 26 games for UGA. In 2021, even though he missed most of the season hurt, he pushed himself to get back early and help the Dawgs during their playoff push. The result was Georgia’s first National Championship in 40 years.
Trade rumors circle former Georgia WR George Pickens
So, now there are some rumors coming out saying that Pickens could be signed via the franchise tag and traded.
This contradicts what Jerry Jones said back on February 5, according to DallasCowboys.com when he said that he wants Pickens around a long time.
“I’m talking to George all the time by virtue of my excitement for him,” Jones said when asked if contract extension talks have begun with Pickens. “He’s better than, as far as what he contributed to our team, showing the potential that he could contribute. I’m looking forward to getting things worked out so George can be a Cowboy a long time.”
Pickens said all he’s looking for is the best deal for both sides.
“Just the ultimate best deal when it helps everybody…” Pickens said when asked what kind of deal he’s looking for. “If it’s the best thing for both parties, then I’m willing to do anything. But like I said, I can’t control it, so I just kind of chill.”
The Cowboys don’t even have to worry about their other star receiver CeeDee Lamb. He stated that he doesn’t care if Pickens gets more than him. He just wants to compete for Super Bowls.
“I don’t care about that, I just want my man to get what he deserves,” Lamb said on San Antonio’s Sports Star radio station at the Super Bowl’s radio row. “As for me, I know I’m good. I’m fine. Me and my family, we’re straight, and I just want to compete at the highest level and I want to compete for a ring.”
