The SEC is coming off an excellent bowl season performance, going a collective 9-2 in the 2015-16 edition, and it appears that experts have confidence it can turn in a repeat performance.
Sporting News’ Bill Bender has predicted every single bowl game for this upcoming season — and the SEC is well-represented. In all, he expects 10 of the conference’s 14 teams to make a bowl, the exceptions being Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
The SEC is also predicted to have three teams compete in New Year’s Six bowls: Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee, one of which is expected to compete in the College Football Playoff national title game (Alabama).
Here is the complete list of SEC teams, and whom they could possibly face come bowl season:
AutoZone Liberty Bowl: West Virginia vs. Florida
Birmingham Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Temple
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Miami, Fla. vs. Arkansas
AdvoCare Texas Bowl: TCU vs. Texas A&M
Belk Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. Auburn
Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl: Iowa vs. Georgia
Outback Bowl: Michigan State vs. LSU
NEW YEAR’S SIX
Allstate Sugar Bowl: Baylor vs. Ole Miss
Capital One Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. Tennessee
Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl (Playoff semifinal): Ohio State vs. Alabama
College Football Championship Game: Alabama vs. Clemson
The conference would no doubt love to have so many of its teams compete in high-tier bowl games, but another Alabama-Clemson matchup would likely give the country ‘Bama fatigue … if that doesn’t exist already.
