The SEC knows that football is won in the trenches; perhaps that’s why it leads all conferences with 12 players on the preseason Outland Trophy watch list.
The Football Writers Association of America lists 12 SEC players on its list who could win the Outland, given annually to he nation’s top interior lineman. That mark is one more than second-place Big Ten (11) and third-place conferences Big 12 and Pac-12 (10 apiece).
Auburn leads all SEC teams with three players on the list, with LSU coming in at second, with two; the SEC West boasts eight players to the SEC East’s four. Nine of the conference’s 14 teams have players featured on the list.
A player from an SEC team has won the Outland Trophy four times in the last decade. Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel was the last to do so, in 2012.
