Two SEC teams were among the finalists for former Wright State guard Mark Alstork. However, he chose to go elsewhere as a graduate transfer.
On Wednesday, Alstork picked Illinois over LSU, South Carolina and Pittsburgh, as relayed by The Advocate’s Sheldon Mickles. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard averaged 19 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season. He also considered Dayton, Georgetown and Louisville before eliminating those programs from consideration.
During the 2015-16 season, he averaged 12.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Either LSU or South Carolina would have benefited from Alstork’s presence. LSU is starting a new era under coach Will Wade after going 10-21 last season under former coach Johnny Jones. South Carolina is coming off a memorable 26-11 season that included a Final Four run under coach Frank Martin.
