Of the SEC names on the list, the two most intersting have to be Scarbrough and Stidham. Scarbrough wasn’t even the starting running back for the Crimson Tide last season before taking over in the College Football Playoffs.
Stidham hasn’t played since 2015 and technically hasn’t even been named the starter at Auburn. But after he his performance in Saturday’s spring game, the former Baylor quarterback looks as good as advertised. And from a narrative standpoint, he could easily have a Cam Newton-esque effect on the Tigers and carry them to an SEC and potentially national title.
Other favorites include Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, who was a finalist last year, and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson who won the 2016 award. There has only been one repeat winner in the history of the Heisman Trophy. The last SEC player to win the award was Derrick Henry of Alabama in 2015.
