The red-hot Trojans (26-9) are coming in as a dangerous 11 seed against the third-seeded Bears, after edging SMU on Friday and surging to beat Providence in the play-in game earlier in the week.
Elijah Stewart scored 22 points vs. the Mustangs for coach Andy Enfield’s Trojans.
Baylor (26-7) topped New Mexico State 91-73 in the opening round. Al Freeman scored 21 points off the bench to lead coach Scott Drew’s team.
The Bears lost to 12th-seeded Yale last year in the first round and also 14th-seeded Georgia State two years ago. Now that the Bears are past the first round, we’ll see how far they are able to go. Drew has reached the Sweet 16 three times in his first 13 seasons as the Bears’ coach.
