2017 NCAA Tournament Gonzaga vs. West Virginia game preview
Gonzaga survived a late run by Northwestern in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to San Jose, Calif., to begin the Sweet 16 portion of the event.
The Bulldogs (34-1) beat the Wildcats by six points to reach another regional semifinal under coach Mark Few. Gonzaga lost in the Sweet 16 last year. Before facing Northwestern, the Bulldogs beat South Dakota State by 20 points in the first round.
Gonzaga hasn’t been tested much lately. The matchup against Northwestern marked a rare occasion in which a game was decided by fewer than 10 points for the Bulldogs. Gonzaga’s only loss this season happened against BYU on Feb. 25.
West Virginia, meanwhile, returns to the Sweet 16 for the second time in three years under coach Bob Huggins. The Mountaineers (28-8) beat Bucknell and Notre Dame to advance to the regional semifinal.
This should be an interesting matchup. West Virginia has the athletes to threaten Gonzaga, but the Bulldogs could be too tough to overcome.
