2017 NIT Tournament preview
The 2017 NIT tournament features a number of experimental rule changes, specifically regarding fouls and free throws. At the end of the 10-minute mark in both halves, team fouls will reset to 0. After each team picks up its fifth team foul, the team will get two free throws, where the current rules state that teams shoot one-and-one starting on the seventh team foul of the half.
An additional rule change resets the shot clock to 20 seconds instead of 30 when the ball is in-bounded into the front court.
The first round of the NIT Tournament saw a number of upsets, as all four No. 2 seeds — Georgia, Cal, Houston and Clemson — and all four No. 3 seeds — Indiana, Alabama,Utah and BYU — lost. The teams that advance to the semifinals will play in Madison Square Garden in New York City. The semifinals are scheduled for March 28 and the championship game is on March 30.
