2017 NIT preview
From Land of 10.com’s Steven Petrella:
UNC Greensboro-Syracuse is the matchup of the first round, but not on the court. Orange coach Jim Boeheim bashed the traditional home of the ACC Tournament —Greensboro, N.C., and got shredded on Twitter for it.
Clemson is the highest-rated team in KenPom.com’s ratings entering the NIT. The Tigers struggled in ACC play but earned a No. 2 seed and will play Oakland in the first round.
TCU and Indiana are the next highest-rated after that. The Horned Frogs shocked Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament before falling to Iowa State. They earned a No. 4 seed and will play Fresno State in the first round, while No. 3-seeded Hoosiers faces Georgia Tech on the road due to renovations at Assembly Hall (despite being the higher seed).
Syracuse, Cal, Iowa and Illinois State earned the top seeds, but should beware — just one No. 1 seed has won the NIT since 2009.
