USC vs. Penn State keys to the Rose Bowl
1. Can USC keep its momentum?
The Trojans are on an eight-game winning streak and playing close to home. It’s up to the Nittany Lions to disrupt the confidence that both provide for the Trojans in the early going. Failure to do so could make it a long day for Penn State.
2. Sam Darnold likely determines the outcome of the game
The Trojans have been a completely different team since Sam Darnold took over for Max Browne as the starting quarterback. Darnold has completed 68.1 percent of his passing attempts and thrown 26 touchdown passes despite starting only nine games.
3. Trace McSorley is pretty good too, though
While the announcers are likely to gush about the job Darnold has done for USC, don’t sleep on Nittany Lions QB Trace McSorley as another X factor. His 25-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio is impressive, and he’s also a weapon with his feet, adding another 6 touchdowns on the ground.
