HOOVER, Ala. — Auburn to the SEC East? Missouri to the SEC West?
The idea of SEC realignment has been a popular topic of debate during the offseason, but that doesn’t mean it is anything serious.
During his opening remarks at the 2017 SEC Media Days, league commissioner Greg Sankey continued to indicate that the idea was more fantasy than reality.
“That has not been an agenda item at any meeting,” Sankey said when asked about the possibility of realignment.
He went on to explain that he most often has to address the topic at large gatherings with a microphone, indicating that it may be more of a media creation than a backroom talking point.
Sankey’s remarks echoed the stance he gave on the topic at the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla., where he acknowledged that he had discussed the topic with Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs but held firm that it has not been a meeting agenda item.
