Whether it be Patrick Peterson and LSU, Vernon Hargreaves and Florida or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Alabama, plenty of schools in the SEC have a claim to the term “DBU.”
According to Fox Sports expert Bruce Feldman, only one can be the true “DBU.” And for the 2016 season, Feldman thinks it’s LSU.
Feldman ranked the top-10 secondaries in college football and had the Tigers slotted at No. 1. The Tigers bring back a loaded defensive backfield with the likes of Jamal Adams, who has been pegged as first round draft pick, Tre’Darrius White and Kevin Tolliver. Adams and White both were named to Jim Thorpe award watch list and LSU was the only SEC team with two defensive backs on the list.
Also making Feldman’s list were Alabama at No. 3 and Florida at No. 5.
The Crimson Tide secondary is loaded with former 5-star recruits such as Minkah Fitzpatrick and Marlon Humphrey. Eddie Jackson was also nominated for the Thorpe award. The Crimson Tide did lose defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, who took the head coaching job at Georgia.
Florida lost Hargreaves and safety Keanu Neal to NFL Draft last year, but still bring back talents such as Jalen Tabor and Marcus Maye who was also on the Thorpe award watch list.
