Ole Miss may be losing its two starting tackles from a season ago, but it’s restocking at the position in a big way.
The Rebels secured a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Royce Newman Monday night, and did so while also prying his pledge away from a rival SEC school.
“Happy to announce I’ll be committing to Ole Miss!” Newman said via Twitter, along with a photo of himself next to Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze.
Newman, a 6-foot-7, 255-pound prospect, is coming off an official visit to Oxford, Miss., this past weekend.
The offensive tackle from Nashville (Ill.) Community High School had been committed to rival Missouri since June 2015.
Earlier on Monday, Ole Miss received good news in the form of a commitment from four-star wide receiver Tre Nixon.
Newman is rated as the No. 8 prospect in Illinois, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
