Watch list season isn’t over yet. On Thursday the quarterbacks got in on the action, with four SEC signal callers landing on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list.
The award is given to the nation’s top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments. Candidates for the award must be seniors or fourth-year juniors that are on set to graduate with their class.
The four from the SEC are: Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly, Texas A&M QB Trevor Knight, Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs and Florida QB Luke Del Rio.
Three former SEC quarterbacks also made the list. Former Tennessee quarterback Nathan Peterman, former Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles and former Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill all made the 43-man watch list. Peterman is at Pittsburgh, Towles is at Boston College and Hill is at TCU.
Kelly led the conference in passing yards and touchdown passses last season. Dobbs led all quarterbacks in rushing yards and in rushing touchdowns. Del Rio and Knight both transferred into their new schools, as Del Rio came from Oregon State and Knight from Oklahoma.
