Some people no longer considered the SEC the best conference in the country. But according to CBS Sports Midseason All-American team, the SEC still has the best players in the country.
Eight players from the SEC made the CBS Sports Midseason All-American team. That’s more than any other conference. The eight representatives are: Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram, Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson, Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett, Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster, Vanderbilt linebacker Zach Cunningham, Alabama cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick, Florida cornerback Teez Tabor and Alabama defensive back Eddie Jackson as punt returner.
The four players from Alabama are the most by any team, and more than the entire Big 12 and Big Ten conferences.
Engram leads all tight ends in receiving yards with 590 yards. Engram also leads the SEC in receiving yards this season. Cunningham racked up 19 tackles against Georgia and earned multiple Player of the Week honors for his play last week. Barnett of Tennessee is second in the SEC in sacks with 6.0.
Fitzpatrick had three interceptions in one game against Arkansas, while Tabor leads the conference in interceptions with four interceptions. Jackson has returned two punts for touchdowns and also returned an interception for a touchdown.
CBS Sports voted Lamar Jackson as player of the year and had Urban Meyer of Ohio State and Chris Peterson of Washington as co-coaches of the year.
