Alabama takes advantage of overmatched FCS opponent, coasts at No. 1 in poll

Alabama didn’t need to play a marquee opponent to hold the No. 1 spot in the FWAA-NFF Super 16 poll, rolling FCS-level Mercer 56-0 on Saturday.

Miami had a battle on its hands to stay No. 2, coming from behind to beat Virginia 44-28, while Clemson also cashed in on an overmatched opponent, beating FCS Citadel 61-3 to stay No. 3.

The Crimson Tide was one of four SEC teams in the Super 16, as Auburn and Georgia remained at Nos. 6 and 7 this week, and Mississippi State is tied for the No. 15 spot after beating Arkansas 28-21.

Auburn beat Louisiana-Monroe 42-14 to hold its No. 6 spot, while Georgia turned back Kentucky 42-13 to stay at No. 7.
