Auburn is now coming after one of Alabama’s top commits in the class of 2017.
Cam Akers, the nation’s No. 3 running back from Clinton (Miss.) High School, picked up an offer from the Tigers Tuesday. After a short conversation with Auburn coaches, Akers told SEC Country that he will “definitely” take a visit to the campus soon.
“I’m just looking forward to a good time with my family and getting to see the campus and personally meet the coaches,” Akers said.
Despite his commitment to the Crimson Tide, he doesn’t view the team’s biggest rival coming after him as an awkward situation.
“It’s not weird at all to me,” Akers said. “I’m in a similar situation with Ole Miss and Mississippi State. They just see top talent like anybody else.”
The other two schools that Akers mentioned — Ole Miss and Mississippi State — are currently viewed as the Crimson Tide’s biggest competition of keeping him true to his pledge to Alabama. In addition to Akers, the Tide have two other running backs committed — the nation’s No. 1 prospect at the position, Najee Harris, and four-star prospect Brian Robinson from Tuscaloosa.
Akers, a four-star prospect, is rated as the state of Mississippi’s No. 1 recruit.
