How did the SEC’s Week 12 performance impact the league’s standing in the latest Amway Coaches Poll?
Alabama may have frustrated Crimson Tide fans with its 31-3 win against Chattanooga, but the voters were not deterred. The Crimson Tide remains the clear choice at the top of the poll as the only remaining unbeaten Power 5 program. Alabama will look to complete a perfect regular season with an Iron Bowl victory against Auburn on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide received all 63 first place votes again this week.
With the SEC East hanging in the balance, Florida went into Tiger Stadium and earned a 16-10 victory against LSU. Not only did the victory earn the Gators their 12th trip to the SEC Championship Game, but it also improved their standing in the eyes of voters. The Gators jumped five spots as a result of the win, moving from No. 18 to No. 13.
LSU, on the other hand, dropped to 6-4 on the season with a game against Texas A&M looming large for interim coach Ed Orgeron. The Tigers fell out of the rankings as a result of the loss to the Gators, which came down to the final play.
After a disappointing effort against Georgia in Week 11, Auburn wasted little time in disposing on Alabama A&M in Week 12. The Tigers won 55-0 for their first shutout win since 2008, but stayed at No. 16 in the poll.
Texas A&M experienced some heartache after a Week 11 loss to Ole Miss, but took care of business in Week 12 with a win against UTSA. The win didn’t move the needle with voters, as the Aggies stayed put at No. 22 this week.
Though the Vols lost out on the SEC East title and displayed a suspect defense against Missouri, Tennessee improved to 8-3 with a victory over the Tigers. It was enough to jump the Vols back into the rankings at No. 24.
