Four previously unbeaten teams losing their first game of the season on Saturday was enough for a major shakeup in the new Amway Coaches Poll.
Alabama maintained its top spot in the poll simply by resting up on a Week 9 bye. The Crimson Tide will put its top ranking to the test with a Week 10 meeting with LSU.
Texas A&M took care of business against New Mexico State with a comfortable 52-10 victory at Kyle Field. As a result, the Aggies moved up three spots from No. 10 to No. 7 in this week’s poll.
Florida’s 24-10 victory against Georgia in Jacksonville helped maintain the Gators’ position in the poll, as well as the SEC East race. The Gators moved from No. 12 to No. 9 this week.
Auburn continued to show it is in the Top 25 to stay with another big win against Ole Miss in Oxford. The Tigers made a five-spot jump from No. 17 to No. 12. LSU also made a five-spot leap from No. 19 to No. 14 in spite of a Week 9 bye.
Tennessee was the conference’s big loser on Saturday, dropping a winnable game 24-21 at South Carolina. The Vols dropped all the way out of the poll after falling to 5-3 on the season. The Vols were joined by Arkansas and Ole Miss among the “other teams receiving votes.”
