College football rankings: AP Poll Top 25 features 6 SEC teams after Week 4

The Week 4 AP Top 25 was released by the Associated Press on Sunday. Six SEC teams were listed in the Top 25 after the fourth full weekend of the 2017 football season.

Alabama remained the SEC’s top team following a dominating 59-0 win at Vanderbilt in the Crimson Tide’s conference opener. Alabama received 52 of a possible 61 first-place votes, with Clemson landing eight and Oklahoma receiving one.

Georgia turned in perhaps the conference’s best performance of the weekend, flashing brilliance in all facets of the game during a 31-3 victory against Mississippi State. Georgia jumped four spots from No. 11 to No. 7, while Mississippi State fell seven spots from No. 17 to No. 24.

The Auburn team that many people were waiting on during the preseason finally showed up during a conference win against Missouri, as the Tigers ran up 51 points on the road. Auburn moved up from No. 15 to No. 13 as a a result.

Florida needed another nail-biting fourth quarter drive to win against Kentucky on Saturday night, moving the Gators to 2-1 on the season with a pair of conference wins already under the belt. The Gators dropped from No. 20 to No. 21 in spite of the victory.

LSU beat Syracuse in an ACC vs. SEC tilt at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. The Tigers held on to the No. 25 spot in the poll.

The Associated Press began its college football poll on Oct. 19, 1936, and it is now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season. The preseason poll was started in 1950. Sixty-one members vote in the poll each week.

The 2017 preseason AP Poll placed the Crimson Tide as the top SEC team at No. 1, Auburn at No. 12, LSU at No. 13, Georgia at No. 15, Florida at No. 17 and Tennessee at No. 25.
