The SEC lost one team in the Week 8 AP Top 25 poll, but gained another.
Kentucky came in at No. 8 in this week’s ranking. South Carolina fell out of the poll, but previously unranked Florida moved up to No. 25.
Kentucky slipped from No. 6 to No. 8 after a 73-70 loss to Louisville on Dec. 21. The Wildcats came close, but a potential game-tying 3-pointer by freshman phenom Malik Monk rimmed out at the end of the game.
The win moved Louisville up from No. 10 to No. 6. It was just the Wildcats’ second loss of the season, and both have come against teams currently ranked in the top 10 (No. _ Louisville, No. 2 UCLA).
Florida moved into the rankings after a 94-71 win over Arkansas-Little Rock last week. The Gators had been receiving votes in the Week 7 poll.
South Carolina fell out of the rankings entirely following a 62-60 loss to Clemson. The Gamecocks had won their last two meetings with the Tigers. But they couldn’t overcome the absence of Sindarius Thornwell, who missed his fourth straight game due to suspension.
