Arkansas coach Bret Bielema loves to talk and wasn’t afraid to talk about SEC counterparts Florida and Ole Miss on National Signing Day.
Bielema has put together a top-25 recruiting class in his fourth season in Fayetteville, Ark., but that didn’t mean he was pulling any punches during an interview on ESPN2 Wednesday.
“Florida, kind of the new Ole Miss, they’re doing some things in recruiting that just kind of shocks you a little bit,” Bielema said during the interview.
Perhaps Bielema was alluding to some questionable practices in Gainesville, Fla. Keep in mind, Ole Miss was in hot water with the NCAA for recruiting violations in 2013. Bielema could have put Florida in the limelight.
Or maybe Bielema wasn’t dissing Ole Miss and Florida at all. Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze told Sports Illustrated that Bielema called him to emphasize that those comments were meant to be complimentary.
For now, Bielema and the Razorbacks will likely be forced to look up to both Ole Miss and Florida in the Class of 2016 rankings. Hugh Freeze currently holds the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation. Jim McElwain at No. 9 in 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.
