Ramone Nickerson, an assistant football coach at Tuskegee University, was arrested on federal gun and drug charges on Wednesday, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.
Nickerson, 33, was found with three ounces of cocaine, a pound of marijuana and a handgun in Russell County, Ala., on March 13. He is charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute and one charge of possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
Nickerson will face a maximum of 20 years for the drug trafficking charges and five years for the firearms charge.
Nickerson was a four-year starter at defensive back for Tuskegee from 2002-05. He became a student assistant on the team’s staff in 2006. He now serves as the team’s cornerbacks coach.
More details will come when Nickerson is charged and further actions are taken.
