Here’s a major prediction that should make SEC fans happy.
The fine folks at Athlon Sports say the SEC will be the nation’s strongest conference this season. A year ago, many pundits labeled the ACC as college football’s best, especially after Clemson edged Alabama in a thrilling national championship game. Even college football guru Phil Steele broke down why the ACC was superior to the SEC in 2016.
Well, Athlon Sports envisions things unfolding differently this fall.
Check out part of the publication’s explanation below for why the SEC will be No. 1 in the coming months.
For the first time in recent memory, you could make a legitimate argument last season that the SEC was not the best conference in college football. That was last year. Moving forward, the league should reclaim its spot as the unquestioned king of the sport, thanks to the continued dominance of Alabama and the expected re-emergence of Auburn and LSU in 2017.
True, Alabama should be strong again. But the SEC’s depth will be determined by the success or lack thereof of teams such as LSU and Auburn. More depth is needed in the league. If LSU and Auburn can produce strong seasons, then that will enhance the SEC’s image. Much will be learned soon.
