One-time South Carolina commit Marlon Character will venture back to Columbia, S.C., for an official visit this weekend.
The three-star safety from Atlanta, Ga., will visit with the Gamecocks, a program he de-committed from in November, as part of a busy January that also includes stops to Virginia Tech (Jan. 22) and, lastly, Auburn (Jan. 29), he confirmed to SEC Country.
Character was originally committed to the Gamecocks before flipping his commitment to the Tigers on Nov. 2. Coincidentally, Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson, both of whom have now taken post in Columbia, were his two lead recruiters at the time.
Their pull and the uncertainty surrounding the South Carolina coaching staff led Character to waver on his commitment to the Gamecocks.
“It’s hard to commit to a situation when you don’t know who is going to be in place to run that situation, and that’s what we told (secondary coach) Lorenzo Ward,” his father told SEC Country following his son’s de-commitment. “We gave him a call before it went public and they completely understood.”
Character is rated as the No. 18 safety in the country.
